2006 Walkable Community Workshops

The North Bethesda Transportation Center will host two more Walkable Community Workshops in 2006. Set for May 2nd, these workshops will focus on the Twinbrook and White Flint West/Executive Blvd areas. Both workshops will be free of charge. Exact locations and times will be announced soon, however, White Flint West/Executive Blvd will take place in the morning and Twinbrook in the afternoon. The workshops' format will be similar to those held last year.

Who's invited? Everyone! Especially employers and area businesses, employees, property owners and developers, property management companies, residents, community groups, elected officials, transportation professionals and safety experts, and others interested in walkability.

NBTC partnered with the State of Maryland and the National Center for Bicycling & Walking in 2005 to deliver two workshops--one in Rock Spring Park and one near White Flint--aimed at enhancing North Bethesda's pedestrian environment. The interactive four-hour sessions brought stakeholders from each community together to explore ways to encourage more walking.

An expert facilitator delivered a presentation on the elements of a walkable community and solutions to common issues. He then led participants on a walking tour to experience each community's pedestrian environment firsthand. Participants then reconvened in small breakout groups to identify specific measures to improve pedestrian conditions.
